Before a single wall gets painted, a crew walks through your front door or onto your site. Who they are, how they prep and how they keep you in the loop decide how the whole job goes.
You have to trust the people you let in to paint. You’re handing over the keys to your home, or access to a working site, and relying on someone to protect what’s there while they transform it.
Here’s how to choose a painter on the Gold Coast, and the people behind We Paint Gold Coast who’ll look after your job.
Quick summary
- Ask who will be painting. A painter’s own qualified team means you know who’ll turn up each day.
- In Queensland, painting work valued over $3,300 must be done by a QBCC licensed business, and you can check a licence online in minutes.
- How long a paint job lasts depends more on the preparation underneath than on the brand of paint.
- We Paint Gold Coast is a family-run crew from Burleigh Heads, led by director Trent Delaney.
What to Look For in a Painter on the Gold Coast
The best painters on the Gold Coast have three things in common: their own qualified team, real time spent on prep, and know-how about the local climate. The first is the easiest to check.
Qualified, In-House Painters Rather Than Subcontractors
Ask who will be painting: the business’s own qualified team, or subcontractors. When a job is subcontracted, the crew in your home may never have met the person who quoted it. Every painter at We Paint Gold Coast is a qualified member of our own team, several hold a Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, and our jobs are run by the same experienced leading hands.
Then check the licence. Both Queensland and NSW require painting above a set job value to be done by a licensed business:
| Queensland | New South Wales | |
|---|---|---|
| Licence needed for work valued over | $3,300 | $5,000 (residential work) |
| Licence issued by | QBCC | NSW Fair Trading |
| Check a licence on | QBCC licensee register | Verify Licence |
Professional painters on the Gold Coast will give you their licence number without hesitating. We Paint Gold Coast holds QBCC licence 15040055, NSW Fair Trading licence 169899C and $20 million public liability insurance.
Thorough Preparation as the Real Difference in a Lasting Finish
Preparation decides how long paint lasts. Premium paint on a dirty, glossy or flaking surface can fail years before cheaper paint on a properly prepared one. Ask any painter you’re considering what happens before the first coat goes on. A solid answer covers washing, filling, sanding, priming and protecting everything that isn’t being painted.
Why Prep, Not Just the Paint, Is What Makes It Last
Prep makes paint last because a new coat can only grip as well as the surface underneath it. If that surface is covered in salt film, mould, dust or chalky old paint, the new coat fails with it. The QBCC’s guide to common painting defects links patchy textures, rough or shiny areas and poor adhesion to inadequate cleaning, sanding or priming.
Local Knowledge of the Coastal Climate, Salt Air, Humidity and UV
A Gold Coast painter should choose paint for where your property sits, because the coast is tough on paint. Salt air settles on homes in Palm Beach and Mermaid Beach, humidity hangs around canal estates like Hope Island, and hinterland homes in Mudgeeraba and Mount Tamborine cop strong UV.
A local crew picks a paint system for the salt, humidity or UV your property faces. Exterior coatings such as Dulux Weathershield and Wattyl Solagard are made for these conditions, and Wattyl warrants Solagard for 25 years when it’s applied correctly. A local crew also plans exterior work around the weather, because humidity slows drying and recoat times and storm season brings rain and wind. You can see how we run an exterior repaint, from the first wash to the final coat, on our exterior painting page.
Five Questions to Ask When You Call Around for Quotes
Keep these five questions handy when you ring or email for quotes. Good local painters will answer them clearly and quickly.
- Who will be painting, and are they your own team?
- What’s your licence number?
- What prep is included, surface by surface?
- Which paint system suits my property, and what warranty comes with it?
- How and when will you keep me updated?
We’re happy to answer every one of them. Call us on 0499 764 703 or book a free, no-obligation quote, and we’ll walk through your home or site to show you exactly what prep it needs.
Who We Are
Trent Delaney founded We Paint Gold Coast in 2018, and today the business has a full crew of qualified painters on the Gold Coast.
A Local, Family-Run Business Owner-Led From Burleigh Heads
Trent still owns and runs the business from our headquarters in Burleigh Heads, so there’s no head office or franchise between you and the person responsible for your job. As family owned painters, we put our name on every job, from a townhouse in Burleigh Waters to a warehouse in Molendinar. The whole crew starts each day from our fully kitted-out workshop at 2/3 Rudman Parade, Burleigh Heads.
Trent Delaney, Director, With Over 24 Years of Trade-Qualified Experience and Family Painting Heritage
Trent Delaney has been a qualified painter since he was 19, bringing more than 24 years of trade-qualified experience and a family history in the trade. Before the Gold Coast, he ran a successful painting company in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, for 10 years with eight full-time employees, then moved to Burleigh Heads in 2017. He still loves the work, and passing his tricks of the trade on to the team.
Family-Run Doesn’t Mean Small: A Full In-House Crew for Residential, Commercial, Body Corporate and Government Work
Our full crew paints homes, commercial and industrial sites and body corporate buildings, and we tender for Queensland Government work through QBuild. The business grew fourfold in the two years after COVID, and the crew grew with it. We also lay epoxy floors ourselves, so builders and property managers can deal with one crew for both.
Here are some of the people behind your job:
- Dannikah Woods, Operations Manager: runs the daily schedule, project coordination and client relations, keeping residential and commercial jobs moving smoothly.
- Sammy, Supervisor: 17 years in the trade, starting with two years of commercial work for Dynacoat around Australia, and coming up nine years with our crew. Just as handy spraying or restoring a roof as he is running a site.
- Rafael Tinoco Vilaca, Leading Hand Painter: a licensed painter who worked his way up from apprentice and now runs jobs from start to finish, with new builds his specialty.
- Bryce McInally, Leading Hand Painter: seven years across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and New South Wales, now on high-end new homes. Spray work on gloss framework and staining timber are his specialties, and prep is the work he’s proudest of.
- Daniel Yeowart, Painter: in his sixth year on the tools and Cert III qualified, with a name built on high-end new homes across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers.
- Cyana Ferguson, Painter: five years in the trade, Cert III qualified in 2024, and a finalist for Apprentice of the Year in both 2022 and 2024. Known for clean cutting in and meticulous gloss work on trims, frames and doors.
What We Stand For
We Paint Gold Coast stands for three things: a finish that lasts, service you’d happily recommend, and a crew that keeps getting better.
Quality and Thorough Preparation on Every Job, Never Cutting Corners
The back of a door that hardly anyone looks at gets the same care as the feature wall everyone sees, and it all starts with prep. Our painters never paint over mud wasps, bird droppings or contamination. Surfaces are washed first, with soft washing (low pressure and gentle cleaners) on render and anything else high pressure could damage. Sanding is done with Festool equipment that pulls the dust away as it works, so it doesn’t end up all over your home.
Every job then gets two top coats, over a primer sealer undercoat where the surface needs one, using proven ranges from Wattyl, Dulux and Resene, and it’s all backed by our workmanship warranty. We’d rather finish a day later than cut a corner.
Customer Service First, With Open and Honest Communication Throughout
At We Paint Gold Coast, customer service starts with communication: we reply to every enquiry within 24 hours and tell you straight away if anything changes. On a building site, that might be another trade running behind or an area called ready before it is. At home, it’s usually the weather. Either way, you’ll know what’s happening and what we’re doing about it. Our clients usually mention the team and the service before they mention the paint, and we take that as the best compliment going.
Investing in the Team, Ongoing Training and Local Apprenticeships
We keep investing in our painters, because they’re the ones in your home or on your site every day. That means ongoing training and keeping every permit and qualification current, and it shows in our low turnover. We take work experience students from local schools, including St Joseph’s, and we’re about to take on a new apprentice. Where we can, we also sponsor small local groups.
How We Work With You
You’ll deal with Trent from the first site visit, and with the same crew through to the final clean-up.
Trent Personally Quotes Every Job, With Colour Consultation for Homes
Trent quotes every job himself, starting with an on-site look at the surfaces up close. For homes, that visit doubles as a colour consultation, with samples and swatches, and more in-home visits if you need them. You then get a detailed written quote with no hidden costs. If a surface needs extra prep, it’s in the quote before we start, not a surprise on the invoice. Quotes are free, with no obligation, and you can request yours online.
A Clean, Respectful Process From First Quote to Final Walk-Through
The crew protects your home from the first day and leaves it spotless at the final walk-through. We schedule the work around you, move the furniture and cover everything with drop sheets, so all you need to move are personal belongings like clothes. For interior painting, water-based paints mean you can use the rooms again the same day, and low-VOC options are there for homes with young kids, pets or sensitivities.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do painters on the Gold Coast charge?
As a guide, We Paint Gold Coast interior repaints start from $7,500 plus GST for a three-bedroom house, and exteriors from $8,000 plus GST for a four-bedroom single-storey rendered home. Every job is quoted individually, because the size of the property, the surfaces and the prep they need all change the price. Our pricing page has more starting prices.
Do you take on small painting jobs?
Our minimum is a full room, so we don’t take on a single wall or ceiling. Our sweet spot is whole-home repaints, full interiors, new builds and renovations.
How long does it take to repaint a house interior?
A three-bedroom interior usually takes around five days. A four-bedroom home takes around five to seven days with two painters. Extra prep and lots of colour changes can add time, and your quote will set out the timeframe for your home.
Can you paint a business without it closing?
Yes. For commercial and industrial sites, we can work after hours, overnight or on weekends, and we can stage larger sites in sections so the rest keeps trading.
Which areas do your painters cover?
We’re based in Burleigh Heads and work right across the Gold Coast, from Coolangatta and Tugun up to Coomera and Ormeau. For the right job, we’ll also cross the border into Northern NSW, as far south as Byron Bay for homes and Lismore for commercial sites. Homes as far north as Brisbane and west to Mount Tamborine are in reach too, and commercial work takes us up to the Sunshine Coast and out to Ipswich.
